Overview & Bottleneck

UniSalon is a premium scheduling SaaS platform built to help beauty salons manage seat bookings, employee shift rotations, and automated client SMS alerts from a unified dashboard.

The Bottleneck: Traditional salon scheduling was slow and relied on physical logbooks. This caused booking errors, double-booked slots, and a 22% bounce rate during online client reservation attempts.


Research & UX Strategy

Target Audits: We audited three competitor scheduling tools, identifying that clients prefer a visual timeline of available employees. Salon admins need single-click scheduling interfaces to prevent click-fatigue.

Wireframing & Prototypes: We designed a layout containing a real-time responsive grid showing columns for active stylists, calendar intervals, and client slots.


Design System & Code

Visual Design: Using a dark tech design aesthetic, we implemented frosted glass panels, glowing blue indicator lights for filled slots, and Outfit typography headings to maintain visual branding.

Engineering Logic: Built as a Next.js 15 App router platform with TypeScript. The backend uses Firebase Firestore listeners to update stylist timetables in real-time without manual window reloads.

Core Engineering Challenge: Synchronizing high-frequency bookings across simultaneous clients to prevent double-booking stylist slots. Resolved by writing database transaction functions that lock booking slots during checkout execution.


Lessons Learned

Engineering key platforms requires decoupling heavy database calls from primary user interfaces. Serverless Edge Caching and optimistic UI updates guarantee that end users never experience loading freezes.
